“VIVIR/MATAR” Continues an evolution of Cartagena’s work, stemming from his 2001 piece, “Capital Culture/media punishment” in which he explored similar issues of defining the line between life and death, the executor and executed, and the presence or lack of complicity in the society that contextualizes this so called tug-of-war. The installation centers on two paper wall mural, and expands to utilize a variety of media tha frame the viewer in an enviroment of complex visual connotation. Cartagena is determined that the work will also speak directly to current global politics and the “WAR ON TERROR”.
